Application for Art Director (h/f) at Mack One FranceJohanna Oberst
I am a communication designer with a background in concept development, visual identity, digital and analogue design, and art direction. After completing my professional training in communication design, I gained 2.5 years of experience as a Junior Art Director in a branding agency and have worked independently as a communication designer for four years. I am currently completing my Bachelor of Arts in Communication Design at Munich University of Applied Sciences, graduating in March 2027 (explore my work here).
I am driven by curiosity, imagination, and the belief that there is always a way forward. I enjoy turning complex ideas into clear concepts, structuring projects, and leading teams with empathy while bringing out the strengths of each individual. For me, design is not only about creating something visually compelling, but about creating an emotion, a connection, or a thought that stays with people.
Social engagement has been an important part of my life for a long time. Since 2024, I have been co-developing “Endoworriers”, an online safe space and podcast for people affected by endometriosis and adenomyosis, with a focus on mental health. Since 2025, I have also been involved in “Bring dein Ding”, a social project connecting people, personal stories, and sustainability through shared experiences (explore more here).
I am looking for an opportunity in art direction where I can combine creative thinking, storytelling, and a strong sense of responsibility.
Available from May 1, 2027.

Message from batavia:
making-of
Inspired by Pirates in Batavia and the world of Europa-Park, I wanted to turn my application into something you could discover rather than simply read. A message in a bottle, a handmade wooden chest and a letter became the vessel for my story, my skills and the reason I am drawn to Emotioneering.
-
What if an application could feel less like an application and more like a story?
I wanted to create something that felt personal from the very first moment. The idea of a message in a bottle came naturally to me from the world of Pirates in Batavia. A bottle, a wooden chest and a letter became the starting point for turning my application into a small story you could actually hold in your hands. -
Once the idea was created, I started looking for the right details. I found the bottle with the emblem of a brewery in my hometown, Rosenheim, which made the object feel even more personal. The wooden chest was inspired by the boxes and props I had seen at Europa-Park. I sketched, experimented and gradually brought the individual pieces together.
-
The last step was making it feel as though the message had really travelled from Batavia to Plobsheim by water. I experimented with brushing, flaming and oxidation to give the materials an aged, weathered character. Rather than making everything look perfect, I wanted the small imperfections to make it feel handled.
Auer Dult Munich – will I find my bottle here?
